5 NFT-based blockchain games that could soar in 2022

NFT utility in Play-to-Earn (P2E) gaming could become one of the hottest sectors in DeFi this year. The games, which have become popular in the crypto industry, often require that players first purchase game pieces as NFT. Players can then compete for in-game rewards and prizes, giving them the name “play-to-earn” (or P2E).

While 2021 became the year of NFTs, GameFi applications did surpass DeFi in terms of user popularity. According to data from DappRadar, “Nearly 50% of active cryptocurrency wallets connected to decentralized applications in November were for playing games. The percentage of wallets linked to decentralized finance, or DeFi, dapps fell to 45% during the same period, after months of being the leading dapp use case.”

Another is Guild of Guardians is coming in 2022 and is hotly anticipated. Built on ImmutableX, the first layer-two solution built on Ethereum that focuses on NFTs, it will operate as a free-to-play mobile role-playing game, modelled on P2E mechanics.

Galaxy Fight Club

Next up is Galaxy Fight Club (GFC). In this game, players take a proof-of-picture (PFP) NFT and make it into an avatar to battle other fighters. Focusing on interoperability, GFC uniquely places high value on its original fighters but allows other avatars to battle for the opportunity to earn rewards.

CryptoBeasts

CryptoBeasts is a pixelated digital art game that has the same feel as the original Zelda game. It has a ‘peer-to-peer electronic rare egg system,’ of 10,000 colourful eggs that grant each owner one land parcel in the game‘s “Eggland” universe and one decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) vote.
